View-Master® Virtual Reality Viewer Set for Release Fall 2015

View-Master Virtual Viewer animation

Mattel has posted a website introducing the new View-Master® Virtual Reality Viewer. The viewer is set to be released in Fall 2015.

With the exciting new about the new viewer comes a brand new View-Master® logo. The new logo features a red "V" that has orange bar behind it that resemble an "M". The letters are surrounded by14 multi-colored reel windows. The new logo uses the popular flat design concept found on many apps.

Kicking off the Toy Industry Association’s Toy Fair in New York, Mattel, Inc. unveiled the collaboration with Google that gives the iconic View-Master® toy a 21st century twist. With the new View-Master® that works with Google Cardboard, Mattel is infusing its expertise in fun and play to develop an immersive digital experience for kids.

Mattel’s new View-Master® offers an easy-to-use and affordable platform that will enable users to take engaging field trips where they can explore famous places, landmarks, nature, planets and more in 360 degree ‘photospheres’. By pairing the View-Master®’s ‘experience reel’ and app with an Android smartphone, kids will immediately experience an imaginative and interactive learning environment.

“The View-Master® was first introduced at the 1939 World’s Fair in New York, giving consumers access to spectacular 3-D worlds by simply selecting a reel and looking through a device,” said Doug Wadleigh, SVP and Global Brand General Manager, Toy Box at Mattel. “By working with Google’s Cardboard platform, we are now able to take that experience even further bringing the discovery and immersive viewing experience of the View-Master® to the digital age. Combining technology and innovation with this classic toy gives kids an enhanced experience allowing for play opportunities not yet imagined through new, digitally curated content.”

“We developed Google Cardboard as an open platform to inspire companies like Mattel to rethink how to deliver new user experiences through technology,” said Mike Jazayeri, Product Director for Google Cardboard. “Many of us on the Google Cardboard team grew up playing with View-Master®, so we were excited to collaborate with Mattel and to see the viewer evolve and work with Google Cardboard.”

Available fall 2015, consumers can purchase the View-Master® viewer and a sample experience reel for SRP $29.99. The sample reel (when paired with app and smartphone) provides a glimpse of the full View-Master® experience, including a gallery of classic View-Master® images, a journey into space with a tour inside a space shuttle, and a chance to explore a unique destination in 360 degrees. Additional experience reel packs will be sold separately at retail for SRP $14.99, and each pack will feature four themed experience reels – with themes such as nature, adventure destinations and science – and each experience reel will be loaded with multiple areas to explore.

To continue to expand offerings on the View-Master® platform Mattel will begin to curate and create new experience reels with other Google Cardboard developers to offer users even more unique content to enjoy.

For more information about the View-Master® product, and for licensing and developer opportunities on the View-Master® platform please visit www.view-master.com.

Demon Knight Blu-ray

One Night in Hell Music Video by Brian May and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra to become Feature Film

Brian May includes 3-D references galore in his new video One Night in Hell. The short film, produced by Unanico Group and Duck Productions in association with The London Stereoscopic Company, features an original soundtrack by Brian May, has launched at over 20 film festivals worldwide, was given five stars in the British press, proclaimed by Esquire to be the “best film you’ll see all Halloween,” and hit the number one spot for short films on iTunes.

With the heritage of making horror films for over 80 years, Universal Studios Hollywood brings you the most terrifying live Halloween event in Los Angeles! Halloween Horror Nights 2015 offers a haunting new slate of nightmares featuring the most authentic scares from some of the biggest horror properties in film and TV. One Night In Hell is set to be a main attraction at the event, which runs from Sept. 18 until Nov. 1.

A 3-D phenomenon of 1860s Paris will be unleashed on 21st century Hollywood. In association with The London Stereoscopic Company, One Night in Heil is a devilish and spectacular animation short that tells the story of one skeleton’s journey into a stereoscopic Hell.

Using an innovative combination of CGI, 2-D and stop motion animation, the film brings to life, for the first time, the Diableries stereo cards that have fascinated devotees for more than 150 years and inspired the earliest film-makers, including Georges Méliès. Adapted from the book, Diableries: Stereoscopic Adventures in Hell by Brian May, Denis Pellerin and Paula Fleming, the film is six minutes and 66 seconds long, styled after the traditional Diableries stereo cards from 19th century France.

One Night in Hell is directed by Jason Jameson and James Hall and the soundtrack features new music composed by Brian May. The film’s sound has been mixed in state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos sound providing the utmost clarity, richness and detail in selected cinemas. The music arranged and produced by Brian May was recorded with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in Prague. The film’s climax is a demonic concert, in which Satan is the conductor and the skeleton is the lead guitarist, as Queen’s We Will Rock You combines with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture in a way that it has never been played before.

One Night In Hell, which was originally launched in the UK Halloween 2014, will be reconfigured as a stop-motion / live-action mix for release in 2019 with Star Wars producer Gary Kurtz on board to produce the film. May will compose the soundtrack and serve as executive producer.

Unanico Group and Duck Productions are producing the feature in association with May’s The London Stereoscopic Company and are in talks with voice talent and distributors.

Kurtz, whose producer credits include Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and The Dark Crystal, will produce alongside MacKinnon & Saunders, who worked on Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride and Fantastic Mr Fox.

Jason Jameson, who co-directed the short with James Hall, will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Paul Laikin, who produces for Unanico Group.

It was adapted from the book Diableries: Stereoscopic Adventures In Hell by May, Denis Pellerin and Paula Fleming and tells of a skeleton’s journey into a stereoscopic Hell. The short was styled in the tradition of the Diableries stereo cards from 19th century France and featured an original soundtrack arranged and produced by May that combined Queen’s anthem We Will Rock You with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 8-CD Soundtrack Box Set Available on Oct. 16

A Nightmare on Elm Street 8 CD soundtack box set cover art.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 8 CD soundtack box set with sweater.

Varese Sarabande is releasing a deluxe package containing all 8 soundtracks from the original A Nightmare on Elm Street series. The box set includes more than 8 hours of music with almost 3 hours of bonus tracks! The soundtrack to the only 3-D Freddy movie, Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare, is also included in the set.

New artwork has been commissioned for the set by artist Shawn Conn, and assembling the CD sleeves next to one another forms a larger piece of art. The pictures above include a sample of an individual sleeve from the front and back, as well as the larger piece of art that is created when all 8 sleeves are placed alongside each other. Before you have any nightmares, please don’t worry … the original Matthew Joseph Peak creations are included in the accompanying booklet. The set is then completed with a knitted Freddy sweater encasing the outer box! A truly unique item that ensures the A Nightmare on Elm Street - 8 CD Box Set will stand out on any shelf.

The world was introduced to Wes Craven’s Freddy Krueger, (portrayed by Robert Englund), in 1984 with A Nightmare on Elm Street. Krueger was a former child killer seeking revenge against the parents who burned him by haunting the dreams of their teenage children and killing them in their dreams. The series has earned almost half a billion dollars worldwide, and boasts some of the most beloved nightmarish themes from composers including: Charles Bernstein (Wes Craven’s A Nightmare On Elm Street), Christopher Young (A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge), Angelo Badalamenti (A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors), Craig Safan (A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master), Jay Ferguson (A Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child), Brian May (Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare), J. Peter Robinson, (Wes Craven’s New Nightmare) and Graeme Revell (Freddy vs. Jason).

Also included in this set is a suite from the video game featured in the film Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare and the theme from Harry Manfredini’s Friday the 13th series, as heard in the film Freddy vs. Jason (with performances by the band Machine Head).

Only 2,000 copies of this deluxe package will be sold! UPC: VLE-9203

Texas Chainsaw 3-D Poster Art (2013)

Texas Chainsaw 3-D animated poster.

Here is the animated version of the poster for Texas Chainsaw 3-D. The film was released on Jan. 4, 2013.

Lionsgate's Texas Chainsaw 3-D continues the story of the homicidal Sawyer family, picking up where Tobe Hooper's 1974 horror classic left off in Newt, Texas, where for decades people went missing without a trace. The townspeople long suspected the Sawyer family, owners of a local barbeque pit, were somehow responsible. Their suspicions were finally confirmed one hot summer day when a young woman escaped the Sawyer house following the brutal murders of her four friends. Word around the small town quickly spread, and a vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer stronghold, burning it to the ground and killing every last member of the family...or so they thought.

Decades later and hundreds of miles away from the original massacre, a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had. After embarking on a road trip with friends to uncover her roots, she finds she is the sole owner of a lavish, isolated Victorian mansion. Her newfound wealth comes at a price as she stumbles upon a horror that awaits her in the mansion's dank cellars.

Directed by John Luessenhop, the film stars Alexandra Daddario (Heather Miller) and Dan Yeager (Leatherface), Introducing Tremaine 'Trey Songz' Neverson (Ryan), Scott Eastwood (Carl), Tania Raymonde (Nikki), Shaun Sipos (Darryl), Keram Malicki-Sanchez (Kenny), James MacDonald (Officer Marvin), Thom Barry (Sheriff Hooper), Paul Rae (Burt Hartman), Richard Riehle (Farnsworth) along with special appearances from four beloved cast members from previous installments of the franchise: Gunnar Hansen (the original Leatherface), Marilyn Burns, John Dugan and Bill Moseley. The screenplay was written by Adam Marcus and Debra Sullivan and Kirsten Elms, based on a story by Stephen Susco and Adam Marcus and Debra Sullivan and based on characters created by Kim Henkel and Tobe Hooper.

Stephen King's The Mist in 3-D Sound (1993)

The Mist in 3-D sound was released back in 1993 as an audio book. The people marketing it must've thought 3-D had that extra attraction to add it to the cover art and promotional advertising. Here is a can of the cover art.

A mysterious mist, alive with strange movements and unearthly sounds, creeps slowly into a small town, trapping the inhabitants from the rest of the world, in a chilling, full-cast dramatization of King's horrific story of fear and the unknown.

Sound so visual you're literally engulfed by its bonechilling terror! Stephen King's sinister imagination and the miracle of 3-D sound transport you to a sleepy all-American town. It's a hot, lazy day, perfect for a cookout, until you see those strange dark clouds. Suddenly a violent storm sweeps across the lake and ends as abruptly and unexpectedly as it had begun. Then comes the mist...creeping slowly, inexorably into town, where it settles and waits, trapping you in the supermarket with dozens of others, cut off from your families and the world. The mist is alive, seething with unearthly sounds and movements. What unleashed this terror? Was it the Arrowhead Project---the top secret government operation that everyone has noticed but no one quite understands? And what happens when the provisions have run out and you're forced to make your escape, edging blindly through the dim light? The Mist has you in it grip, and this masterpiece of 3-D sound engineering surrounds you with horror so real that you'll be grabbing your own arm for reassurance. To one side---and whipping around your chair, a slither of tentacles. Swooping down upon you, a rush grotesque, prehistoric wings. In the impenetrable mist, hearing is seeing---and believing. And what you're about to hear, you'll never forget.

Yosemite riders stereoview

A 1860s stereoview of U.S. vice-president Schuyler Colfax sold for $638 with nine bids. This image depicts Fredrick Law Olmstead, his wife Mary Perkins Olmstead, and politician Schuyler Colfax. According to the Photographs of Carleton Watkins site and other sources, in August 1865, U.S. House of Representatives Speaker of the House Schuyler Colfax (from New Carlisle/South Bend, Indiana) organized a group of Eastern journalists and political figures to engage in a cross-country trip. Landscape architect Fredrick Law Olstead read about the trip and joined the group when they arrived to visit and camp in the Yosemite. At the time, Olstead was chairman of the Commission of Yosemite and Mariposa Grove and had a strong interest in conservation. Several other members of the commission also met with Schuyler's group. On Aug. 9, Olstead read to the group of about 19 people his important paper titled Yosemite and the Mariposa Grove: A Preliminary Report, urging the U.S. government to conserve the Yosemite Valley's natural beauty. In 1869, Colfax and other members of the group published a book about their trip titled Our New West. Colfax later served as vice-president under Ulysses S. Grant.
